Talbina – A Warm and Soothing Beverage

Talbina is a warm, soothing beverage made with barley flour and milk. It has mild flavours and looks a lot like the Indian classic sweet dish, kheer. It can be made with either water or milk and is usually served as a comforting breakfast cereal or a light evening snack.

According to Imam Ibn Al Qayyim, this drink has many benefits and was mentioned in the hadith as a sunnah of the prophet. It is a great food for the sick as it is filling, nutritious and contains healing properties.

It is also a good source of dietary fibre and provides protein, iron and other essential nutrients to the body. It helps to lower cholesterol levels, improve digestion and has anti-inflammatory properties. The ingredients are rich in vitamin B and iron, while the milk provides calcium, vitamin D and additional protein. It is also a great source of potassium which is important for bone health.

This delicious recipe is easy to make and can be enjoyed with a drizzle of sweetener such as honey, maple syrup or agave. It can also be served with a sprinkle of toasted nuts or seeds and spices such as cinnamon, cardamom or nutmeg which will add to the warmth and flavour. It can be used as a base for other recipes such as bircher muesli and is a great choice for children as it can be mixed with berries or bananas for added sweetness.
