How to Turn Off iPhone 5
If your iPhone 5 won’t turn off, you may need to reset the phone’s settings. This will remove any saved preferences and passwords.
Before you do this, make sure your device is unlocked and connected to a Wi-Fi network. Also, check the battery level to see if it’s full or empty.
1. Hold down the power button
If you’re having problems turning off your iPhone 5 and the power button won’t work, there are a few things that you can try. The first thing is to try holding down the Home and Power buttons simultaneously until your iPhone reboots.
Alternatively, you can also try taking a screenshot of your iPhone screen. You can do this by pressing down on the Power button and Home button at the same time for about a second, which will trigger your phone to stash the screen shot in your Photos app.
Then, you can turn off your iPhone without using the power button by navigating to Settings > General and then tapping Shut Down. After a second or so, a slider will appear and you’ll be able to drag it towards the off position.
If this doesn’t solve the problem, there may be a more serious issue with your iPhone 5’s hardware or software. In this case, you may need to take it to an Apple store to have it fixed.
2. Press and hold the home button
If you have an iPhone 5 that doesn’t work right, there are a few things you can try. One is to press and hold the home button until you see a power off slider on the screen. This will turn off the phone in a matter of seconds.
If that doesn’t fix the problem, you might want to try something else. You could also give the home button a quick clean. Use a damp microfiber cloth or toothpick to wipe away any dirt or grime. This will improve the responsiveness of the home button and may help it to work faster again.
Another option is to turn on Assistive Touch, which puts a software version of the home button on your screen. You can then use it to launch apps, open the power off slider, and more.
You can also reset your home button by performing a hard reset. This will take all the data from your iPhone and reinstall it, which should solve any issues you’re having.
However, if that doesn’t work, your problem is likely much bigger than your home button. There may be some physical damage to your phone, or you could have some sort of software issue that’s causing the phone to act up.
That’s why it’s always a good idea to get professional help before trying to repair your iPhone 5. You can call Apple support, or visit an authorized technician to have your device repaired.
3. Press and hold the volume down button
The volume up and down buttons on the side of an iPhone control the audio output. This includes adjusting the ringer, alerts, and other sound effects. They also work for adjusting the volume of songs and videos.
If you’re having trouble controlling your phone, it’s possible that the volume buttons are stuck. This can happen for several reasons, including physical damage, dust or debris accumulation, and even software problems.
You might be able to fix your problem by performing a hard reset. This is one of the most common solutions for iOS issues, so it’s worth a shot.
Another option is to use the AssistiveTouch feature in iOS. This is a feature that works on all iPhone models and can replace your physical Home button when it’s broken or not functioning.
To enable this feature, go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> AssistiveTouch and turn on the switch. You should see a slider labeled “Slide to Power Off” when the feature is enabled, and you can slide it down and off to turn your phone off.
Finally, you can try a few other fixes that might help you turn your iPhone 5 off without using the touch screen. The first method is to press and hold the home button located below your screen. The other is to long-press and hold the volume up button.
In both cases, the screen should begin to turn off after a few seconds. Once it does, you can release the buttons and your iPhone should start to reboot.
4. Press and hold the sleep button
If you have an iPhone 5 or an earlier model, you can turn off your device simply by pressing and holding the sleep button. This is a great feature for people who have a hard time squeezing the power button, or if you accidentally drop your iPhone in water and need to shut it down quickly.
When you press and hold the sleep/wake button, you’ll see a slider onscreen that reads “slide to power off.” You can then drag this bar across until the screen goes black and you’re ready to turn off your phone.
This also allows you to shut down your iOS device without all the apps still running, which can save battery life if you’re not using the phone often or don’t want to drain your battery power. In addition, you can set a Do Not Disturb mode that will dim your screen and silence notifications while the phone is sleeping.
